Work inspired by hours spent painting in an empty house. Surrounded by the past inhabitants' belongings and immersed in the evocative atmosphere, it was impossible not to contemplate life, death and the meaning of our short conscious time on the earth. Connections, part 2 of the triptych, Passages, was the ensuing exploration of this middle phase of life, of what binds us during our fleeting individual lifespans. It seems to me that much of what we strive for is connection: with other beings, with objects, with places, with ideas and concepts, with ourselves...We are constantly reaching out for what is just beyond our awareness. A sense of belonging? Of returning home?
